Aged Care Quality Standards: What they mean for you and how McLean Care is delivering
We know that choosing aged care is a big decision. You deserve to feel safe, respected, and well cared for—whether you’re living in one of our residential homes or receiving support in your own home. That’s why we uphold the Aged Care Quality Standards, which set the rules for what good care should look like in Australia. And with the Federal Government’s new Aged Care Act starting on 1 July 2025, these standards are getting even stronger to better protect and support older Australians.
So, what are these standards, and how does McLean Care make sure you receive the best possible care? Let’s take a look.
1. Consumer dignity and choice
What this means for you: |
You are treated with respect, and your choices about your care and daily life are supported. |
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
We listen to what matters most to you. Whether it’s how you like your morning tea or the activities you enjoy, we tailor our care to your needs and wishes. The new Aged Care Act strengthens your rights by ensuring your preferences are always at the centre of your care plan. |
2. Ongoing assessment and planning
What this means for you: |
Your care is regularly reviewed to make sure it continues to meet your needs.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
We have a dedicated team that checks in with you to make sure you’re getting the right support. If your needs change, we adjust your care plan straight away. Under the new Act, providers must be even more proactive in making sure care remains right for you. |
3. Personal and clinical care
What this means for you: |
You receive high-quality care that supports your health and wellbeing.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
Whether it’s nursing care, help with medication, or physiotherapy, we ensure you have access to skilled professionals who provide safe and effective care. The new Act will make sure providers have stronger accountability for clinical care, meaning you get the right care, when you need it.
|
4. Services and supports for daily living
What this means for you: |
You receive help with everyday tasks so you can live comfortably and independently.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
We support you with meal preparation, cleaning, transport, and social activities—whatever you need to maintain a fulfilling life. With the new Act, there will be clearer guidelines to ensure these services are reliable and high quality. |
5. Organisation’s service environment
What this means for you: |
If you live in one of McLean Care’s aged care homes, it should feel safe, welcoming, and homely. If you are receiving support services at home, then you need to feel safe and comfortable with our team members who visit you.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
Our residential homes are designed to feel like just that—home. We focus on comfort, safety, and a sense of community. The new Act introduces stricter requirements to ensure aged care homes provide environments that are not just functional but truly supportive of your wellbeing. Our Care Workers who visit your home are professionals who are trained in all levels of support from domestic assistance to personal care. |
6. Feedback and Complaints
What this means for you: |
If something isn’t right, you have the right to speak up and have it fixed.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
We actively encourage feedback from residents, clients and families. We have simple and supportive ways for you to share concerns, and we take quick action to resolve them. We also have an annual customer experience survey which is facilitated by an external independent organisation and we encourage clients and residents to be a part of it so we can continually improve our services. |
7. Human Resources
What this means for you: |
The people caring for you should be well-trained, capable and caring.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
We invest in our team members with ongoing training and professional development to ensure they deliver compassionate, high-quality care. The new Act introduces minimum training standards for all workers, ensuring everyone in aged care is well-prepared to support you. |
8. Organisational Governance
What this means for you: |
The organisation providing your care is well-run and responsible.
|
How McLean Care meets this standard: |
We have strong leadership and clear policies to ensure we meet our responsibilities and deliver exceptional care. The new Act strengthens governance requirements, meaning providers must be even more transparent and accountable for the care they provide. |
