National Aged Care Employee Day on Sunday 7 August 2022

NSW and QLD retirement and aged care lifestyle services provider McLean Care is asking their local communities to say “thanks for caring” ahead of the national Aged Care Employee Day on Sunday 7 August 2022 (#ACED2022).

“We’re asking our community to take a moment to think about the quiet achievers and the superheroes who provide care with professionalism, compassion and dedication for our loved ones and give them the recognition they deserve,” Gary Cadwallender Director of Residential, Home and Community Services says.

“It’s been a particularly challenging few years for Aged Care workers both in residential and home care services. The pandemic has meant that many families and friends have been unable to visit their loved ones in care for weeks on end.

“It often fell to the carers, the nurses, and other staff to make up for the loss of  important family contact. Our team became that crucial connection for the older Australians we care for. The pandemic  also meant that Aged Care workers are required  to wear necessary yet uncomfortable PPE for extended hours, required to work double shifts, and at times were away from their own families to provide care for our  residents and clients.  They kept the wheels turning in challenging times.  It’s now the Community’s turn to shine a light on these extraordinary workers and say “Thanks for Caring

“So, in the lead up to 7 August, we ask you to take time to think of the nurses, personal care workers, chefs, cleaners, gardeners, laundry staff, activities coordinators and administration staff when you next visit a loved one in Aged Care and say, “thanks for caring”. As an organisation, we are so grateful for our exceptional team and are gratified to see this national acknowledgment of their contribution.

ACED is a national day which acknowledges the more than 360,000 people who care for and support around 1.3 million older Australians who receive aged care services.
