The Australian Aged Care Collaboration

The Australian aged care collaboration (representing more than 100 providers) released its formal response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. The response is called ‘Aged care – the way forward’.

This response is a 15-point plan to ensure older Australians get the most benefit in the quickest time from an improved aged care system. The report suggests which Royal Commission recommendations the Australian Government should immediately focus on. These priority areas are:

  • Human rights, access and choice
  • Workforce
  • Transparency
  • Sustainability

McLean Care is fully committed to working with the Government on improving the transparency and accountability of Providers as recommended by the Royal Commission. What is also important is the necessity of a clear road map for longer term reform.

‘The Way Forward’ plan must include how we fund the Australian aged care system into the future to ensure that older people are able to have access to the services they want and need. This means we need to start a national conversation about how the aged care system can be sustainably funded, and we need to start that conversation soon.
